A Letter From My Ancestor

Letter from My Ancestor

Have you taken time to understand where I came from?
Have you ever walked in my shoes?
It seems your anger isn’t justified because...
I didn’t ask to come to America;
you took it upon yourselves to kidnap me and others.
How would you feel if you were
taken and separated from your family?
Would you expect those who
kidnapped you to be angry and
upset with you, as if you did something wrong?
I don’t have anything against trees, but I never asked to hang with or from a tree.
I never asked you to help me stay warm by burning crosses in my yard!
Remember you brought me to America. You seem to have forgotten.
People of low self esteem. You had to keep me in a separate school because you were afraid that I
would have outsmarted you.
My people were bombed and killed because you were not smart enough to find sane ways to entertain yourselves.
BUT YOU HATE ME!!
I had to fight hard to vote and was beaten because I protested. You didn’t want me to vote because you were afraid of the changes I could make because of my one vote.
My vote could bring change, and with change comes power.
I understand your fear because once I gained strength and power I would move mountains.
All these years and I never saw a black president, but I never complained or hated anyone.
But you get mad at me, shouldn’t I be the one to get mad.
Walk in my shoes; how would you feel if there was never a White president for all of these decades, only Black presidents.
WOW...makes you think!
Mountains are being moved because I have strength and power!
Things are changing. HOPE HAS WON!
